Does Disney’s Fort Wilderness Allow Pets?

Disney Answer: Yes

Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort is the only pet friendly resorts at Walt Disney World. If you plan on taking a pet with you to Fort Wilderness, you must request a pet site when booking. Pet sites at Fort Wilderness are located in loops 300, 700, 800 and 1600 – 1900. There is an extra $5 per day if you plan on having pets with you. The cabins at Fort Wilderness ARE NOT pet friendly, only the campsite/RV areas.

Not only is Fort Wilderness pet friendly, but there is also a huge fenced dog park, the Waggin’ Trails Dog Park located in the 300 loop. There are also designated dog paths throughout the resort that lead to Waggin’ Trails. In addition to Waggin’ Trails, there are also special “pet” walks throughout the resort where you can walk your dog. Please note that there are many areas in the resort where pets are not welcome, so make sure you know the lay of the land before taking your dog to see Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Review.

One downside, there is no kennel at Disney’s Fort Wilderness, so if you want to board your dog during the day, you will have to head over to the Best Friends Pet Care Kennel located across from Disney’s Port Orleans Riverside, less than a mile from the entrance to Fort Wilderness. Currently, Best Friends runs about $27 per day for day camp.

Can you park at the Grand Floridian?

Disney Answer: It depends

Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort and Spa has a large parking lot just like any other Disney resort. Whether you can park there depends on why you want to park there:

Can you Park at the Grand Floridian?

  • Grand Floridian Guest – YES – If you are staying at the Grand Floridian, you can park there for free during your entire stay. At check in, you will receive a parking pass for your car, just show it each time you enter and exit the resort.
  • Grand Floridian Dining Reservation – YES – If you have a dining or other reservation at the Grand Floridian, you are allowed to park at the resort for a limited time, usually three hours. Please note, they do tow cars that are there for longer than three hours, and nothing can ruin a Disney vacation faster than spending  a day and a bunch of cash to get your car back.
  • Theme Park Parking – NO – As mentioned above, if you are dining at the resort, you can stay there for three hours (but you have to have a dining reservation), otherwise, there is no theme park parking at the resort at all. You will need to park at the Transportation and Ticket Center.

Basically, if you have a reason to be at the resort, you will have access to parking (even if for a limited time). If you are tying to park closer to the Magic Kingdom and away from the crowds, don’t bother.

Can you walk from Caribbean Beach to Epcot?

Disney Answer: No

While the entrance to Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort is only a hundred yards or so away from the back side of Epcot, there is no way to walk from Caribbean Beach to Epcot directly.

If it were a dire emergency and you needed to walk, you could make it. Across Buena Vista Drive from the Caribbean Beach, there is a sidewalk that starts just west of the RCID Emergency Services building. That sidewalk will take you past the Speedway gas station and goes to Epcot Resorts Blvd. Once across Epcot Resorts Blvd, the sidewalk forks, and one path will take you into the parking lot for the Boardwalk Inn. From there, you can walk to the Boardwalk Inn, down to the Boardwalk and into Epcot. Taking this walk is dangerous, as there is going to be a lengthy area where this is no sidewalk and you will have to cross Buena Vista Drive in an area where there are no crosswalks and the lights are not made for pedestrians.

So, while you technically can walk from Caribbean Beach to Epcot, there is no safe way that you can do it.

Are Disney Springs and Downtown Disney the same thing?

Disney Answer: Yes

Welcome to Disney Springs—a truly amazing place featuring an eclectic mix of unique boutiques, one-of-a-kind eateries and jaw-dropping entertainment that will have you wondering where the day went.

Disney Springs has actually had several different names over the years, Lake Buena Vista Shopping Village, Walt Disney World Village, Disney Village Market Place, Downtown Disney, and of course, Disney Springs. In 2013, Walt Disney World announced that Downtown Disney would be expanded and rebranded into Disney Springs. On September 29, 2015, Walt Disney World officially dropped the Downtown Disney name and Disney Springs was born. The new Disney Springs is now almost twice the size of the old Downtown Disney, and features 150 new tenants, two new parking structures and a much improved bus terminal. Disney even found a way to instal an exit ramp on I-4 that goes directly into Disney Springs.

Please note: Downtown Disney still exists, but at Disneyland. The Downtown Disney District is Disneyland’s pedestrian outdoor shopping area located between the Disneyland Hotel and the theme parks, and is quite a bit smaller than Disney Springs.

Can I book Disney’s Magical Express Online?

Disney Answer: Yes

UPDATE: As of January 1, 2022, Walt Disney World no longer offers the Magical Express, it has been discontinued.

Disney’s Magical Express is Walt Disney World’s free transportation service that runs from MCO (Orlando International) to all Walt Disney World resorts. The round trip is free as long as you are staying in a Walt Disney World Resort. Please note that stays at the Swan, Dolphin, Shades of Green or any other non-Disney hotel DO NOT include the Magical Express. In order to book your Magical Express transportation, you must make a reservation in advance. You can make a reservation several different ways.

  1. You can add your flight information directly to your Disney World reservation either by calling Disney directly (if you booked directly with Disney) or by giving the info to your travel agent and have them add it for you.
  2. You can make your reservations online, regardless of who you used to book your trip. There is an online form that will ask for your Disney hotel reservation information, your name and address and your flight info, it only takes a few minutes to fill out. Once completed, Disney will mail your yellow Magical Express luggage tags directly to you home.

What is a Grand Floridian Outer Building?

Disney Answer: See Below

Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort and Spa, located at Walt Disney World, is Disney’s most prestigious resort, and definitely the “fanciest”. If you are considering staying at the Grand Floridian, you may see some of the rooms labeled as “Outer Building” and others labeled as “Main Building”. At the Grand Floridian, there is one Main Building, that is where the monorail stop is, most of the restaurants, lobby, front desk, concierge and other services are located, it is the hub of the resort. Built around the main building are 5 outer buildings:

Grand Floridian Outer Buildings

  1. Sago Cay
  2. Conch Key
  3. Sugarloaf
  4. Boca Chica
  5. Big Pine Key

Most likely, if you stay at the Grand Floridian, your room will be in one of these outer buildings, there are very few rooms actually located in the Main Building. In fact, the only rooms located in the main building are some of the concierge rooms (there are concierge rooms in the outer buildings too).

So, while Outer Building doesn’t really sound all that glamorous, just think of them as the Grand Floridan wings where all the rooms are located. You can see in the image below the 5 smaller outer buildings and the one large main building.
